HOW
TO GET A GENTLEMAN’S HANDICAP
Submit 3 cards signed by a Member in a sealed envelope
into the card box situated in the lobby of the Clubhouse
– the gross score on each card should be less
than 106. If you are joining from another Golf Club
then submit your Handicap Certificate from that Club,
in a sealed envelope, into the card box in the lobby
of the Clubhouse. Your Handicap certificate will be
pinned to the notice board in the lobby of the Clubhouse
– your handicap certificate will also show your
PIN (Personal Input Number), which will be required
to enter your Competition score into the Club computer.
Details of how to enter scores are shown on the keyboard
of the computer in the lobby of the Clubhouse. You must
play in three qualifying competitions per calender year
to keep an active club handicap. If you fail to play
in three competitions per calender year your handicap
will become inactive and may restrict your competiion
eligibillity at Styal or other golf clubs you may play
in competitions at.
GENT’S COMPETITION CARDS
All Competition cards should be collected from the Pro
Shop and your Competition entry fee paid prior to commencing
your game. The card will show – the type of Competition
– the Competition date – your name –
handicap fraction applicable to the Competition –
tee of the day. YOU MUST COMPLETE – your handicap
– gross score for each hole – your signature
and that of your marker. On leaving the course you should
enter your gross score into the computer and place your
card in the Competition card box in the lobby of the
Clubhouse.
HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR GENT’S
COMPETITIONS
To play in the regular weekly Competitions you must
have an official Styal Golf Club handicap. Members are
eligible to play in Board Competitions if they have
played in 6 (six) individual Competitions at Styal Golf
Club or a previous Club in the previous 12 months prior
to the actual Tournament staring date. Full details
of eligibility can be found on the next page of this
diary.
The results of the Gent’s Competitions are regularly
posted onto the howdidido website- links to this site
are clearly displayed on the home page of the Club Website
– www.styalgolf.co.uk

in the box situated in the Ladies’ Locker room.

eligibillity at Styal or other golf clubs you may play
in competitions at.

Competition by signing the appropriate entry list in
the lobby of the Clubhouse at least 24 hours in advance.

eligible to play in Board Competitions if they have
played in 3 (three) individual Competitions at Styal
Golf Club in the past twelve months prior to the actual

STYAL GOLF CLUB BOARD COMPETITION
RULES
PLAY-OFFS
In the event of a tie after 18 holes in the following
match play tournaments: The Styal Gents Knockout Competition,
The Styal Gents Doubles Knockout Competition, The TOFFS
singles match play trophy, the Toffs doubles match play
trophy and the Sue Forster Trophy. Competitors must
continue down the 1st hole (19th) and proceed onwards
until a result is concluded. In the event of a tie in
the Club Championship tournament, the players who have
tied must replay over 18 holes on an agreed date.
All other remaining board competitions in the event
of a tie will be decided on the day of the tournament
implementing the standard count back procedure governed
by the Rules of Golf.

The above members are eligible to play in the following
competitions if they have played in SIX individual competitions

Cup, The Styal Gents Singles Knockout Competition, The
Styal Gents Doubles Knockout Competition, The Higham
Cup, The Challenge Trophy, The Social Shield, The Alan
Bethell Memorial Trophy, The Frank Burgess Trophy, The
Club Championship, The Captains Trophy, The Winter League
Shield, The Aquilla Trophy, Leathem Family Cup, The
Winn Mixed Challenge Trophy, The Reid Rose Bowl
GENTLEMEN 5-DAY PLATINUM & SILVER MEMBERS
The above members are eligible to play in the following
competitions if they have played in SIX individual competitions
at Styal Golf Club or a previous club in the past twelve
months prior to the actual tournament date. The Styal
Gents Singles Knockout Competition, The Styal Gents
Doubles Knockout Competition, The Higham Cup, The Challenge
Trophy, The Social Shield, Captains Trophy, The Frank

LADY 5 DAY, 7 DAY & In2Golf MEMBERS
The above members are eligible to play in The Ladies
Shield, Lady Captains Day, The Sue Forster Trophy, The
Merren Plate and The Summer Cup, Leathem Family Cup,
Winn Mixed Challenge Trophy. For the following competitions
ladies must have played in 6 (six) individual Competitions
at Styal Golf Club in the past twelve months prior to
the actual Tournament date: Captains Day, The Higham
Cup, The Challenge Trophy, The Social Shield ,The Aquilla
Trophy.
SENIOR MALE MEMBERS
The above named members are eligible to win if aged
60 and over and have subscribed to the seniors section
the following tournaments. The Toffs Singles Match play
Competition, The Toffs Doubles Match play Competition,
The Seniors Presidents Putter, The Medal Winners Championship,
The Eclectic and the Seniors Championship.
JUNIOR MALE MEMBERS
The above members are able to play in the normal gents
competitions and all junior competitions both on the
18 hole and Academy Course. Junior members are eligible
to play in the following Major competitions if they
have played in SIX individual competitions at Styal
Golf Club or a previous club in the past twelve months
prior to the actual tournament date: - The Professionals
Cup, The Styal Gents Knockout Competition, The Club
Championship, The Alan Bethell Memorial Trophy, The
Social Shield, The Winter League Shield, Captains Trophy,
The Higham Cup, The Ralph Bullock Junior Cup, The Junior
Championship, Leathem Family Cup and the Junior Summer
Plate, The Reid Rose Bowl.
To be eligible to enter the Aquilla
Trophy, The Challenge Trophy and the Styal Gents Doubles
Knockout Competition, junior members must play with
an adult member. Juniors can play in but not win the
regular Sat competitions but will be allocated a nominal
prize for the best junior score.
LADY JUNIOR MEMBERS
The above members are able to play in the normal adult
ladies competitions and all junior competitions both
on the 18 hole and Academy Course. Junior Lady members
are eligible to play in The Ladies Shield, Lady Captains
Day, The Sue Forster Trophy, The Merren Plate and The
Summer Cup, Leathem Family Cup, Winn Mixed Challenge
Trophy. For the following competitions ladies must have
played in 6 (six) individual Competitions at Styal Golf
Club in the past twelve months prior to the actual Tournament
date: Captains Day, The Higham Cup, The Challenge Trophy,
The Social Shield ,The Aquilla Trophy. Lady junior members
are also eligible to play in The Ralph Bullock Junior
Cup, The Junior Championship and the Junior Summer Plate.
Juniors can play in but not win the regular Thursday
Competitions. A nominal prize will be given to the Junior
with a winning score.

can be made up of both lady, gents or mixed combinations.
THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY 11thJUNE &
SATURDAY 18th JUNE
Individual thirty six-hole stroke play competition.
The lowest thirty-six hole gross score wins the competition.
The thirty-six hole best net handicap score will receive
a subsidiary prize.
LADIES SHIELD THURSDAY 7th JULY
Ladies individual stroke-play competition.
CAPTAINS TROPHY SATURDAY 9th JULY
The captains Trophy is an 18-hole tournament. The format
of the tournament is to be decided by the current Captain.
The winner of the Captains Trophy must attend the prize
presentation. Failure to do so will forfeit the prize
but his name will be still entered on the honours board.
THE PROFESSIONALS CUP SATURDAY 23rd JULY
Individual stroke play competition.
SENIORS PRESIDENTS PUTTER TUESDAY 16th AUGUST
The Presidents Trophy is an 18-hole tournament. The
format is to be decided by the current President.

Singles stroke play competition.

Mixed Betterball Stableford Competition

THE RALPH BULLOCK JUNIOR CUP
The junior with the best three out of four net medal
scores in the following summer medal competitions. Thurs
28th July 2.00pm, Thurs 4th August 2.00pm, Thurs 11th
August 2.00pm and Thurs 18th August 2.00pm
FRANK BURGESS TROPHY
The winner will be the player with the best six individual
medal scores including Sat & Wed Competitions between
9th April- 3rd September.
LADY CAPTAINS DAY -THURSDAY 8th SEPTEMBER
Ladies eighteen-hole competition, the format of the
tournament is to be decided by the current Lady Captain.
The winner of The Lady Captains Trophy must attend the
prize presentation. Failure to do so will forfeit the
prize but her name will be entered on the honours board.
THE LEATHEM FAMILY CUP SUNDAY 9th OCTOBER
A family betterball competition for parent and child
or grandparent and grandchild partnerships. All participants
must be members of the club.

SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP
The winner will have the lowest six stroke play scores
between the 12th April – 13th September.
THE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY 17th SEPTEMBER
Eighteen hole stroke play competition 1pm tee off.
THE SOCIAL SHIELD SATURDAY 24th SEPTEMBER
Multiple tee off, shot gun start individual stableford
competition with a bacon sandwich & coffee included.
Followed by prize presentation.
THE WINTER LEAGUE SHIELD
The winner will be the player with the best six aggregate
scores from the Nine designated Winter League qualifying
rounds. Entry via the pro-shop from 16th September -
15th October.
SUE FORSTER TROPHY
To be played by Sunday 25th September
Ladies individual match play knockout competition. Entry
via the pro-shop from 24th March-28th April.
